3D printer build volume comparison
Build volume is the largest part a printer can make in one go. Most popular printers such as the Bambu Lab A1, P1S, P2S and X1C share a 256 × 256 × 256 mm volume; the A1 mini is 180 mm; the H2D and H2S go past 320 mm; and large-format machines like the Elegoo Neptune 4 Max reach 420 × 420 × 480 mm. Resin printers are much smaller but far more detailed.
Drop your model in and every printer we sell is checked at once, so you can see which one fits your projects before you buy.
When a model is too big
You have three options:
- Rotate it — a long part often fits diagonally or lying on its side.
- Scale it down to the percentage shown for each printer.
- Cut it into pieces in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer, print them separately and join them with glue or pins.
Frequently asked questions
What does “fits if rotated” mean?
The model does not fit the way it is oriented now, but it does if you turn it or lay it on its side in your slicer. Changing orientation can change how many supports you need.
What if my model is bigger than every printer?
Split it into parts in your slicer (the Cut tool in Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer), print them separately and glue them together — or scale it to the percentage shown.
Do I need a margin around the model?
Yes. Leave a few millimetres around the edges, especially with a brim or supports, since they add to the printed footprint.
Which 3D printer has the biggest build volume?
Of the printers we stock, the Elegoo Neptune 4 Max has the largest FDM volume at 420 × 420 × 480 mm, followed by the Bambu Lab H2S and H2D.
