Filament Weight to Length Calculator
Convert filament weight to length and back for any material, and find out how much is left on a spool before starting a long print.
Convert weight and length
How much is left on my spool?
How to use it
- 1Choose the material and diameter (most modern printers use 1.75 mm).
- 2Enter a weight in grams to get the length, or a length in meters to get the weight.
- 3To check what is left, weigh the spool on a kitchen scale and enter the empty-spool weight.
- 4Enter the print weight from your slicer to see how many prints are left.
Meters per kilogram (1.75 mm)
| Material | Density | Meters per kg | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| PLA | 1.24 g/cm³ | ≈ 335 m | Shop PLA → |
| PETG | 1.27 g/cm³ | ≈ 327 m | Shop PETG → |
| ABS | 1.04 g/cm³ | ≈ 400 m | Shop ABS → |
| ASA | 1.07 g/cm³ | ≈ 389 m | |
| TPU (95A) | 1.21 g/cm³ | ≈ 344 m | Shop TPU → |
| PA (Nylon) | 1.14 g/cm³ | ≈ 365 m | |
| PC | 1.2 g/cm³ | ≈ 346 m | |
| PLA-CF / PETG-CF / PA-CF | 1.3 g/cm³ | ≈ 320 m | |
| PVA (support) | 1.23 g/cm³ | ≈ 338 m |
How long is 1 kg of filament?
A 1 kg spool of 1.75 mm PLA holds about 335 m of filament. PETG gives about 325 m, ABS about 400 m and TPU about 345 m — the lighter the plastic, the longer the spool. At 2.85 mm the same kilogram is only about 125 m.
Length is weight divided by density and by the filament’s cross-section area, which is why the material and diameter both matter.
Will I run out mid-print?
Weigh the spool on a kitchen scale, subtract the empty spool, and compare the result with the weight your slicer shows for the print. Leave a 5–10 g margin for purging and the first layer.
Frequently asked questions
How many meters are in a 1 kg spool of PLA?
About 330 m of 1.75 mm PLA. Lighter materials like ABS give more length for the same weight — about 400 m per kilogram.
Why does length differ between materials of the same weight?
Density. ABS is about 1.04 g/cm³ while PETG is about 1.27, so a kilogram of ABS is longer than a kilogram of PETG.
How much does an empty spool weigh?
Plastic spools are usually 200–250 g and cardboard spools about 150 g. The most accurate way is to weigh an empty spool from the same brand.
How many meters are in a 250 g spool?
About 84 m of 1.75 mm PLA — a quarter of the 1 kg length.
